Vagas Conquista

Sewing projects for beginners, step by step

About

Vagas Conquista is a free resource for learning to sew from the very beginning. Every guide on the site is written for people who have never sewn before, or who own a sewing machine that has spent more time in its box than on a table.

What you will find here

  • Beginner guides that explain the fundamentals: which tools to buy first, how to choose fabric, how a sewing machine works and how to thread it.
  • Technique guides for the skills every project relies on: cutting, pinning, straight seams, seam allowances, hems and pressing.
  • Step-by-step projects such as pillow covers, tote bags, drawstring bags, pouches, napkins, placemats, fabric baskets and scrunchies.

If you are new, the best place to begin is the guide to starting sewing, followed by how to sew a straight seam. The full list of guides is on the Tutorials page.

How the guides are written

Each project lists what you need, gives a cutting list, states the seam allowance and then describes one action per step, pointing out where beginners most often go wrong. Measurements are given in inches with centimeters in parentheses. Time estimates are rough guides, not promises.

The illustrations on this site are simplified drawings made to show how pieces are cut, stacked and stitched. They are diagrams, not photographs of finished projects.

We do not publish invented reviews, ratings or testimonials, and no individual expert or credential is claimed for the guides. The projects use simple shapes and our own measurements; we do not reproduce commercial sewing patterns. Sewing machines differ, so where a detail depends on the model, the guide says to check your machine’s manual.

Corrections and suggestions

If a step is unclear, a measurement looks wrong or a link is broken, please tell us through the Contact page. Clear instructions matter more to us than anything else on the site, and corrections are always welcome.
